Ben Gronow

Description

Grenfell then surprisingly secured the services of Welshman Ben Gronow; one of Britain’s best players. He had played 393 matches for Huddersfield and was in the front row of Parkin’s touring team at Cootamundra in 1924. Gronow’s motivation to come to Australia and settle in Grenfell, remains a much-investigated mystery. It may be simply that he liked the place. Perhaps the dry climate may have been a factor, as one of his children suffered from a respiratory illness. He had also expressed an interest in farming.
