Title

Wyalong Our Boys v Barmedman 2 September 1928

Description

A program for the Chigwidden Cup, donated by a West Wyalong publican. The Our Boys at that time seemed to be a team from 'Toptown'.

The Chigwidden Challenge Cup, a ‘beautiful silver cup‘ was put up by Frank Chigwidden of the Globe Hotel in 1920. West Wyalong, Mildil, Barmedman and Temora participated in its 15 matches. The Cup was designed to be retained by the holders at the end of the second season, and Barmedman duly trounced West Wyalong in that match before more than 1000 spectators.

In 1928 Barmedman dusted off the Chigwidden and put it in play for its second or reserve grade team. Two West Wyalong teams: the Half Moons and Our Boys from Toppie challenged. The Half Moons won it from Barmedman in July. Then the Old Boys beat the Moons and this program is from the match of 2nd September 1928 where Barmedman sought to take the Cup back. I haven't found the result.

Some of the full names of the players: Barmedman - Hal Moore, Charlie Collier, Vic Roughley, Stan Cooper: Our Boys - Fred Broad, George Broad, Jim Keen, probably Mick Curry, Norman Martin. (image courtesy of Aaron Lawence)
